Carton Pourers – Kitchen Ideas – Less Mess – Less Hassle
I was pouring some milk from a carton, and I had tried the cartons with the plastic spouts, and the ones where you open the “wings”, and pour…
The result…
This mess in the kitchen…
I hate this in a morning!…
You are ready for work, and decide on a cereal before you leave… Oh no, you have to open another carton!
You open the carton, and pour…
Result…
Milk all over the worktop, running all over the worktop, down the cupboard doors, all over the floor, and those cup rings, how I hate those!
furthermore; you are even late or rushing to get to work, because of having to clear up the mess!
OK calm down! (maybe this is a commercial after all!)
Rewind this…
We get our carton, and we fit a carton pourer!
Excellent!
So I am off to the cook-shop for my vision of a carton pourer… they have none… DOH!
OK; So I hop online and check out eBay… and I have found some!
I had to jump through some hoops though to buy these!
Surprise… I had to verify that I was over eighteen! lol
I had to verify my age with my credit card, and reply transactions etc. and what for?… a mere pack of two plastic carton pourers!
Well… after more searching for other sellers, and directly online, I ordered them from eBay; and got my pair of carton pourers delivered, and then tried them out… (you can obviously only buy them in pairs because they are so dangerous!) lol
Anyway I had a result!
By the way, notice the small air-hole in the rear part of the top of the carton?
First you make a small air-hole in the back of the carton (as shown above), this lets the air in to replace the milk poured out; it speeds up the pouring, and stops it going “glug glug” as air normally has to enter via the pourer, possibly making more mess as it splashes out.
It does defeat having a “washing up bottle” style top on it, because the carton isn’t sealed due to the air-hole; but in our house we use a carton every other day, and sometimes every day, so it is hardly going to go stale at that rate, especially in the refrigerator!
When fitting the carton pourer, first make a small hole in the rear part of the top to let the air in (if you want really smooth pouring, and you are OK with a little air getting in).
Next gently push the spike into the front part of the top of the carton, and twist at the same time as pushing.
When the “screw-thread” part begins to enter the carton, you’ll feel some resistance, so at this point, push down as before, but twist the pourer to the right, or clockwise.
At the same time hold the “gasket” which is the pourer top, as the little piece of plastic which holds the stopper is pointing towards the rear, away from the pouring direction. You’ll need both hands for this.
Finally firmly tighten the pourer right down to the rubber seal, and nip it up by hand tightly, but not enough to “strip the thread” as it spins around.
You’ll know when to stop, as it will bottom out, and go firm, so just nip it up a bit more.
If you have wet hands (from rinsing this device out before insertion into the carton); then as tight as you can before your fingers start slipping for me works fine for me.
You can now pour the carton without hassle, mess, and the work to clear up; and the pourer takes only 10 seconds to fit once you have the knack!
If you tighten it up just right, then you’ll have no problem with dribbles when pouring from around the seal.
Well worth the trouble… Clean, hygienic, reusable, washable, and very tidy!
There is no waste, as the holes in the spout are right under where it is screwed in; so you will get just as much from the carton as without it; in fact more, as you don’t lose a whole tablespoon in spillage if you pour a carton without one!
My wife said “oh no!… what are you buying now”, but after a week, she said “wow, these pourers really make it easy and mess free!”
I wonder if I could sell these worldwide, as I really rate them?
If anyone knows, or has used one, then please comment.
Like the colours (or colors for those in the US; why do you have to spell words so differently?).
OK, hope you get some; watch your fingers, and don’t get arrested for carrying one in your pocket as an offensive weapon!
How about this quote from Money Saving Expert…
“We drink a lot of juice in our house and I am looking for something to make life easier for the children. I am sure I have seen one somewhere – its a plastic thing which spikes in the top of a large 1 litre carton and is then a spout, which makes pouring easier. I have tried searching the web, but can’t find any (partly as I don’t know what to call them in my search!). Tried Lakeland first, came up with nothing. Anyone seen them or know where to get them. Nothing on ebay either, only ones for bottles. Don’t really want to decant the juice to a jug every time!
